The true New Yorker secretly believes that people living anywhere else have to be, in some sense, kidding.
Stealing from Gleen O’Brien, the next few entries will be about why I love New York.
New York has a way of rewarding those who stick it out. It is a test and when you pass it you reap the rewards. Sinatra wasn’t exaggerationg with “If you can make it here you can make it anywhere…” You can. But you probably won’t because because who leaves? Where else are you going to get a bagel at 5 in the morning or find a good Tibetan restaurant?
Art: All my friends are artists and writers and architects and actors and models. And for generations New York has been the center of art, theater, writing and various other high-flying enterprises. People what to be at the center, a place where inscrutable talent can be alchemized into fame and fortune.
