Today put things in perspective…
It was a prototypical scene. The kind one would expect to see in a movie as a way of pulling at the audience’s emotions and involving the characters into something larger than oneself. To some, its a cliche moment in film. But when you see it in real life, it makes you take a step back, look at where you are, and where you thought you were going.
A wreath on the front of the ladder truck, and twelve firemen in uniform mourning the five that were lost three years ago today. After three rings of the bell, you realize this isn’t the only station house in New York. There are more, many more.
And just as they raised their heads from prayer, the house bell rang and they rushed off to their job.
Again, something you see in film, but today it wasn’t cliche. Today, it is life.
